Emergency Cell Phone Donation Program

Roseville Police are offering a little extra protection if you can’t afford a cell phone - emergency cell phones for calling 911 only. These phones are available for senior citizens, people with disabilities, domestic abuse victims and others who cannot afford a cell phone.

Distributing Cell Phones

Over the years, police departments and charitable organizations around the country have distributed emergency cell phones to people in need. The phones are programmed for emergency 911 use only. Phone companies offer 911 emergency phone service at no charge.

Roseville residents can set up an appointment to pick up an emergency cell phone at Roseville City Hall, 2660 Civic Center Drive. Email Community Relations Coordinator Tim Hunt or call him at 651-792-7209.

Old Cell Phones

The city also collects old cell phones. Drop off old phones at the Police Department in City Hall, and include the batteries and chargers. Analog phones are recycled and digital phones are sent to the 911 Cell Phone Bank, a nonprofit organization that reprograms the digital phones for distribution. They clear out personal information from old cell phones, but donors are encouraged to remove the memory or subscriber identity module (SIM) card and delete phone lists, lists of calls (received and made), voicemails, email and text messages, organizer folders, web search history and photos.
