Roseville Comprehensive Plan Open House on August 27
Join members of the Roseville Comprehensive Plan Steering Committee and City staff on August 27 from 5:30 to 7:30 pm at City Hall for a firsthand look at Roseville’s proposed Comprehensive Plan. Every 10 years, cities throughout the metro area review and update their comprehensive plans. Plans are then submitted to the Metropolitan Council. The Met Council will review Roseville’s plan to ensure that it fits with regional policies and is consistent with growth expectations within the seven county metro area.

The draft plan is the culmination of work of the Comprehensive Plan Steering Committee since October 2007. Built from a shared community vision, the comprehensive plan is a framework for future growth and development. The plan helps to ensure that the City meets the community vision.

The City of Roseville hired Hoisington Koegler Group Inc., to lead the Comp Plan update. They worked with a Steering Committee of 13 Roseville citizens to review existing conditions, identify community issues and define and designate future land uses within the City. Roseville’s Comprehensive Plan includes goals and policies on land use, housing and neighborhoods, transportation, environmental protection, utilities, and economic development.

Copies of the draft plan and information about the comprehensive planning are available on the Comp Plan update page. Contact Economic Development Associate Jamie Radel at 651-792-7072 or by email if you have additional questions.

CO Detectors Required
All Minnesota houses must now have a Carbon Monoxide detector. As of August 1, 2008, carbon monoxide detectors are now required in all single family homes.

These detectors are required to be installed within 10 feet of sleeping rooms. In the case of bedrooms on multiple floors, additional detectors would have to be installed in each area.

Carbon monoxide is a colorless, odorless gas that can sicken or kill. When inhaled, carbon monoxide is absorbed by the red blood cells and prevents oxygen from being absorbed.

The office of the Minnesota State Fire Marshal has produced a fact sheet on this new requirement.

If you have questions or would like more information, please email Captain Doug Johnson or call him at 651-792-7342.

Applicants Sought for HRA Opening
Are you interested in the current and future condition of housing in Roseville? Do you have interest, background or experience in housing, real estate or finance that you may be able to contribute to the betterment of the community? The Roseville Mayor is seeking applicants for a vacancy on the Housing & Redevelopment Authority (HRA). The HRA is a separate legal authority under Minnesota Statutes 469.001 to 469.047 that directs redevelopment projects with the purpose of removing blight and promoting affordable, safe and decent housing.

The seven-member Board provides the commitment and direction of Roseville’s current and future housing programs and policies. Members of the HRA must be Roseville residents (homeowner or renter) and have a passion and interest in providing quality and affordable housing for all members of the community. Experience in federal, state, county, regional and other services that impact the City’s housing condition will be a great benefit to the HRA.

The HRA meets the third Tuesday of each month. Members’ time commitment would run three or more hours per month, depending on the HRA’s work schedule. The board member will fill a 5 year term which runs through December 2013 and would be eligible for reappointment. The Mayor appoints members to the HRA with City Council approval.

Deadline to apply is August 28 at 4:30 pm. Apply online or at City Hall. Call 651-792-7015 if you have questions.
