On March 17, 2008, the City of Roseville adopted a Rental Registration Ordinance requiring property owners who rent property with 1 to 4 units to have their units registered with the City on an annual basis.

The Rental Registration Program provides a way to identify and quantify rental units within the City to help ensure that rental property is properly maintained.  The Resident Building Maintenance Handbook contains the requirements from the Roseville City Code for maintaining and preserving residential structures. 

Any property owner that rents their property as living quarters is required to register, including property occupied by the owner with rooms rented to unrelated boarders. The following types of rented units must be registered:

• Single-family dwellings
• Duplexes
• Triplexes
• Fourplexes
• Townhomes (Individually owned)
• Condominiums (Individually owned)

The following types of units are exempt from registration:

• Rental properties with more than 4 units
• Rental properties in which all renters are related to the property owner (owner must file an affidavit with the City stating that each renter is a relative)
• On-campus college housing
• Hospital units
• Nursing home units
• Group homes
• Hotels/motels with daily rental units

The annual fee for rental registration is $25 per unit.

Complete a Rental Registration Application for each unit. Registrations are valid from July 1, 2010 to June 30, 2011.

Property owners must notify the City of any changes in ownership or type of occupancy. Registrations are not transferable--new owners must apply for a new registration.
