Newspapers and Inserts

Boxboard

Cereal boxes, cracker boxes, pasta boxes, cake mix boxes, etc. (remove the plastic liners and flatten). Shoe boxes, gift boxes & electronics boxes

Magazines Magazines and catalogs

Cardboard

Corrugated cardboard (please flatten, if oversize place next to bins or bags)

Mail

Mail, office and school papers (no need to remove tape, staples or envelope windows)

Bathroom Boxes

Boxes from toothpaste, medications and other toiletries

Shredded paper

Shredded paper in a closed paper bag

Phonebooks

Phone books
Paper bags

File folders and notebooks (no need to remove the metal spiral)

Beer and pop cartons

Don't include these items

  • Boxes from refrigerated or frozen foods
  • Pizza boxes, egg cartons or boxes soiled with food
  • Paper towels, napkins, cups and plates
  • Gift wrap and tissue paper

  • 2. Place These Bottles and Cans Together in Bins, Boxes or Paper Bags
    Cans Metal food cans (rinsed, no need to remove labels)

    Aluminum cans and foil

    Plastic Plastic bottles with a #1 or #2, including: soda bottles, milk and water jugs, and laundry products containers (throw away caps, lids, pumps, metal and plastic rings, rinse and flatten)
    Glass Glass bottles and jars: brown, green and clear (throw away lids and caps, rinse) Milk Cartons and juice boxes Milk cartons, juice boxes and cartons for soup and broth

    Don't include these items

    • Plastic bags or plastic wrap (Take these to a grocery store)
    • Aerosol cans, paint cans
    • Containers that held hazardous automotive and yard products, such as motor oil and pesticides
    • Window glass and mirrors
    • Drinking glasses, mugs, dishes, cookware, pottery and vases
    • Styrofoam
    • Scrap metal
    • Yogurt, pudding and fruit cups
    • Toys
      • Bottles used for home needle disposal 
      • Medicine containers
      • Produce, deli and take out containers
      • Margarine, cottage cheese, cream cheese and other tubs
      • Microwaveable food trays
      • Containers that held hazardous products, such as nail polish, hobby paints, paint thinner and automotive fluids 
    3. Place Reusable Clothes and Linens in Marked Plastic Bags
    Linens – towels, sheets, blankets, curtains and tablecloths Clothes – belts, boots, coats, gloves, hats, pants, shirts, and shoes

    Textiles must be reusable, dry, clean and free of mold, mildew and excessive stains. No rags - take them to Wipers Recycling in Maplewood.
