About

Meet K9 Jagr (named after hockey legend Jaromír Jágr, pronounced Yawger), a German Shepherd Dog from Slovakia. He is friendly and loves to play. But when he gets to work it’s all business.

Training

K9 Jagr and his handler Police Officer Tom Gray  completed the intensive St. Paul Police K9 School. Training included obedience, agility, tracking, article searches, muzzle work and apprehension.

Officer Gray, who’s been with the department since December 2003, previously worked with K9 Tasco, who passed away a few years ago. Officer Gray said training with Jagr was completely different than training with Tasco. The new style of training is reward based rather than compulsion. Dogs seem to respond much faster and appear to be happier during the training with the new style of training.

From Officer Gray
“I am still very excited that Chief Mathwig had faith in me to take on another K9 partner after Tasco passed away,” said Officer Gray. “His support has allowed me to continue something I truly love. I believe Jagr's energy and nose will certainly help the Roseville Police Department catch a lot of bad guys for years to come,” remarked Gray.

Jagr, along with the two other police K9 dogs, Sieger, who works with Officer Brooke Jennings and Otis, who works with Officer John Jorgensen help make police work safer and more efficient for our Roseville police officers.
