Fire Department Updates

Chief’s Message

A big thanks to so many of you that came out to our Friday’s with Firefighters events this summer.  We had such a huge turnout and community support for these three events, we can’t wait to get them on the calendar for 2024.  It means a lot to have kids and kids at heart visit our fire station to have some fun with the firefighters, eat some junk food, and use the fire station as a playground.  A special thanks to our partners this summer for Friday’s with Firefighters:

Roseville Police Department, Ramsey County Emergency Communications, Dunkin’ Donuts, and Allina Medical Transportation

It is a little over a month away, but we are hosting our annual Open House on Saturday, October 14th from 10AM-Noon. While similar to Friday’s with Firefighters, this event will focus more on firefighters performing demonstrations, self-guided tours of the fire station, and fire prevention and education.

Help firefighters get to you faster.  In an emergency every second counts and we need to be able to know as best as possible the address we are going to.  Please make sure that we can see your address from the street day or night.   House address numbers should be at least four inches tall.  If your home is set back, affix numbers on your mailbox or a post or rock that is close to the street.  It’s always helpful to have an exterior light shine on the numbers as well, if an exterior light is not an option reflective numbers can also be effective.

Night to Unite

The Roseville Fire Department once again hit the streets on Night to Unite visiting numerous block parties and getting the chance to once again connect with our community on this awesome annual event. Thanks to everyone who so kindly welcomed us to your block party, we look forward to seeing everyone again next summer!

Community Lemonade Stands

This summer we hosted a few lemonade stands around the community! We were able to stop by three different multifamily communities to chat with residents, hand out some treats, and spray the fire hose on those extra hot days! We'd love to continue these next year and if your neighborhood or community are interested in hosting, please reach out to Emily at 651-792-7309.

EV Engine

EV Fire Engine Visit

The Rosenbauer RTX EV Fire Engine made another visit to our station in August. This time we were able to allow members of council the opportunity to see and ride in this innovate apparatus. The Fire Department is continuing the evaluation process and hopes to be able to add an RTX to our fleet in the future!

August Notable Events

Kitchen Fire

Crews were summoned to a reported kitchen fire at Fernwood Drive (insert date??). Thanks to a quick response firefighters were able to keep the fire to the stove top and surrounding cabinet area helping to reduce damage. No injuries were reported to firefighters or occupants.

Acetylene Tank Fire

Crews responded to the Pacal industrial complex for a report of a combustible gas tank fire. Upon arrival crews found an acetylene gas tank with fire coming from the top of the tank. Crews were able to quickly move the tank from inside the building and allow it to burn off before being removed from the property.

August Training Events

In August the Fire Department focused our fire type training on our 2 1/2” hoseline and search & rescue.  Our EMS training was focused on Cardiac Arrest Management and sessions with our Medical Direction Team.

We utilize our 2 1/2” hose lines for a variety of purposes.  This can be used for large volume of fire, long distance hose stretches and also to supply other apparatus with water.  This hose takes increased strength and greater technique to manage.  We also revisited our search and rescue techniques.  We will be focusing our next “Live Burn” on some of these techniques and incorporating them into full fire evolutions.

Cardiac Arrest is an “all hands on deck” type of situation for our firefighters.  This takes practice and repetition so when we are called for someone whose heart has stopped we can work as a team to provide the best care and chance for recovery to our patients.  Regions EMS instructors put on training sessions for each of our shifts this month.  We worked on and reviewed mass casualty situations, pain management and reviewed updates to our medical protocols.

We look forward to September when we will be conducting our Fall Live Burn.  This is a great opportunity to put all of our training to the test in a real fire situation.
