Fire Department Updates

Chief Brosnahan

Chief’s Message

Roseville Fire is off to a great start in 2025!   While we remain busy and at a call volume pace equal to, or just ahead of, this same time in 2024, we have had a lot of different trainings and events in the first quarter of 2025 and more to come throughout the year. Take a look on the following pages at our data, as well as pictures of training and incidents to see what our firefighters have been up to.

This report is coming out right after the annual severe weather awareness week (April 7th-April 11th). But it is still important to make sure you and your family have a plan when it comes to severe weather. The department always likes to promote proactive steps of having a plan with your family and household when it comes to fire emergencies as well as severe weather. Some good ideas include having an emergency case that is accessible in the lowest area or the most central room in your residence. This emergency case should have potable water, non-perishable food, batteries, and a charging bank for phones and other important devices for information. It is important to consider items you would need if you were to have no electricity for 1-4 hours.

This summer we are anticipating the arrival of our electric fire engine. This will be an exciting time for the department as well as for the city. This is the second electric fire engine constructed in the state of Minnesota and the first electric large apparatus the city has invested in. We believe there will be long-term savings and efficiencies provided by this unique piece of equipment. And we are excited to show it to the community upon its arrival; standby for a date and time on an open house once we have it in the fire station. Once it is here we will have several weeks of training on the apparatus before we can officially put it into service to serve the community!

We are excited to once again host our Fridays with Firefighters events in summer 2025! The community has been so supportive of these events and it is such a benefit to open our doors and interact with all of you. And Friday’s with Firefighters isn’t just for the kids! We have educational materials, truck tours, and even Dunkin Donuts coffee for all of the adults as well! We are partnering with the Roseville Police Department, Allina EMS, Ramsey County Emergency Management, Dunkin Donuts, and Culvers to put on the events.  See you this summer!

All events go from 10:00AM-Noon!

Community Outreach

Ashes

The start to 2025 has been BUSY for Ashes as she takes on new experiences and new opportunities to serve Roseville. Ashes has begun to respond to 911 emergency calls this year lending a ‘paw’ to those who may be experiencing an emergency of their own. Her presence on these calls not only helps to lighten the atmosphere but also calm patients experiencing an emergency. Ashes and both of her handlers participated with several other Soldier’s 6 K9’s in March greeting fans at the MN Wild hockey game. This event was a fundraiser both for Soldier’s 6 as well as CoCo’s Heart Animal rescue. These events provide a significant funding support for both agencies and Ashes was able to meet hundreds of fans and share her new trading cards!

Explorers

Our Fire Explorer post continues to be VERY active and are gearing up to participate in the Fire Explorer Competition at the MN State Fair in August. A recent training night included the explorers participating in vehicle extrication and patient removal. Smiles all around for the explorers who were present for this training! Notable Events

New Rig Assignment Board

The fire service has a long standing tradition of having an assignment board that is updated at the start of each 24 hour shift with where the firefighters will be “riding” during their shift. Over the last several months our firefighters have worked to design and have produced a new assignment board for our fire department. We are proud of this new addition to our apparatus bays and look forward to this new board being a part of the Roseville Fire tradition for years to come!

Industrial Garage Fire

On March 18th Roseville A-Shift crew along with mutual-aid partners were called to an industrial garage off Larpentuer Ave. Crews were quick to put out a small fire on the second floor of the structure.

Vehicle Accident and Extrication

Firefighters responded to a significant vehicle accident on Highway 35W and 280. A vehicle stopped on the shoulder of the highway was rear-ended by another vehicle causing significant damage to the vehicle and serious injuries to both occupants. Firefighters had to use the “jaws of life” to remove the trapped patients from their vehicle to allow rapid transport to the hospital. Roseville Firefighter/Paramedics were able to access the patients by climbing into the damaged vehicle while firefighters worked on the extrication process and provide paramedic level care. This is one more example of how our ALS First Response program increases the medical treatment that is rapidly available to members of our community here in Roseville!

Training Events

Ground Ladders

Roseville A-Shift crew conducted monthly training, the topic being ground ladders. Monthly training allows the crews to practice utilizing skills that may not be frequently used on emergency scenes to stay sharp and effective at the task-at-hand.

Cold Water Rescue

Several crews attempted to catch the last bit of out-going ice for the season on nearby Lake Josephine to get an additional rep of donning our ice rescue suits and practice techniques for rescuing victims from thin ice.
