Snow Plowing

Snow PlowSeveral factors are in play to determine when city streets need to be treated and/or plowed. We closely monitor the weather to ensure city streets are plowed in an efficient manner and, preferably, during low traffic hours for the safety of other drivers.

No parking is allowed when there has been 2 inches or more of continuous snowfall. The parking ban lasts until the streets have been plowed curb to curb. Please see Snow & Ice Removal for more information.

Ramsey County is responsible for plowing county roads and the Parks Department plows pathways.

Street Sweeping

Street SweeperCity streets are swept at least four times a year and more often in environmentally sensitive areas. As soon as weather conditions allow in the spring, crews start sweeping environmentally sensitive areas, high usage streets and center mediaautons. There is an early summer sweep and an early fall sweep. Final fall sweeping begins once leaves have fallen.  Sweeping generally occurs between 7 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Depending on weather conditions, extended hours may be necessary to complete this program.

Downed Trees/Branches

Downed Tree smallDowned trees or branches from trees located in Roseville city rights-of-way will be cleared by our department. If a street is obstructed by a privately-owned tree or branches, we will clear the street but debris removal is the responsibility of the property owner.

If you have concerns about a diseased tree, a tree located within a park, or a tree impeding a pathway, please contact the Parks Department.

Our department also performs yearly tree trimming maintenance, weather permitting.

Crack Sealing

Crack SealingAnnual crack sealing maintenance is performed on our mill and overlay streets. Crack sealing helps prevent larger maintenance projects in the future. It helps to extend the life of the pavement, while preventing larger potholes, cracks and craters in the asphalt. Sunlight, changing seasons and traffic loads create cracks in our asphalt. If left untouched, these result in larger maintenance costs and projects. Crack sealing our milled and paved roads reduces tenting where cracks are present and lessens moisture being able to penetrate the asphalt and become hazardous.

We use a router to follow cracks to open a ¾” x ¾” groove that is then blown clean and filled with our crack sealing sealant.

Patching

Pothole Spray PatchingBecause asphalt is a porous substance, water from rain or snow can seep down through the gaps and, when temperatures drop, the water freezes and can crack the asphalt. The cracks can lead to potholes. Our Streets Department stays on top of patching cracks and potholes on city roads to keep the roads in safe condition.

Pavement Marking

Pavement MarkingThe City of Roseville maintains pavement marking on city roads. County and state roads are maintained by Ramsey County and MnDOT, respectfully.

In depth information can be found on MnDOT's website.

Mowing

MowingVarious Roseville city streetscape areas, select rights-of-way, and storm sewer ponds are mowed.

Street Signs

Street SignThe Streets Department is responsible for maintaining regulatory signs and various informational signs, such as no parking and street name signs. Ramsey County is responsible for signs on county roads and MnDOT is responsible for signs on state roads. When roads of different jurisdictions cross, the higher jurisdiction is responsible for the abutting sign (e.g. stop sign).
