An Invitation to Karen Martyrs' Day Ceremony
The Karen Organization of Minnesota (KOM) invites the community to a special ceremony commemorating Karen Martyrs' Day this weekend.
The KOM is based in the City of Roseville. The Karen are indigenous people in the Southeast Asian countries of Thailand and Burma (now Myanmar.) More than 20 thousand Karen refugees now call Minnesota home due to ongoing violence in the region.
On Martyrs’ Day, Karen people all over the world commemorate and honor fallen leaders, soldiers, and civilians who have lost their lives in the struggle for freedom, democracy, human rights.
Following the ceremony and throughout the weekend, attendees can visit Karen food vendors, participate in games, and observe sport tournaments.
