Electronics Disposal
Electronic products containing a cathode ray tube (CRT), such as TVs and computer monitors, may not be placed in the garbage. Electronic products contain lead and other heavy metals which are harmful to human health and the environment.

Lead from CRTs is the largest single source of lead in Minnesota's municipal waste. Approximately 20% of each CRT is made up of lead; this is between 5-8 pounds of lead per unit. The ban will keep toxic lead and other recyclable components of electronics out of landfills. A number of retailers accept electronics for free or a small fee. Please see the table below for recycling options.

Donate Cell Phones

The City also collects old cell phones. Drop off old phones at the Police Department in City Hall, and include the batteries and chargers. Analog phones are recycled and digital phones are sent to the 911 Cell Phone Bank, a nonprofit organization that reprograms the digital phones for distribution. They clear out personal information from old cell phones, but donors are encouraged to remove the memory or subscriber identity module (SIM) card and delete phone lists, lists of calls (received and made), voicemails, email and text messages, organizer folders, web search history and photos.
