Storm Safety Tips
During recent rainstorms, heavy rains and strong winds caused much damage. Roseville Firefighters remind you to keep your family’s safety in mind before venturing out in a storm:
-
Do not underestimate the depth of floodwaters. Even a few inches of standing water can stall your engine and leave you stranded.
-
Assume all downed wires are electrically charged. Contact Xcel Energy at 1-800-895-1999 or call 911 to report downed lines.
-
To report downed trees or other storm damage on public property in Roseville, contact Roseville Public Works at 651-792-7004 during business hours. Evenings or weekends call 651-767-0640.
-
During a power failure, be careful using candles. Do not leave the candle unattended. A breeze could cause curtains or paper to come into contact with the flame and start a fire.
-
Do not use fuel-powered generators in your home or garage. Carbon monoxide fumes are odorless and can accumulate quickly.
-
When using generators, use the appropriate size power cords to carry the electrical load. Undersized cords can overload and cause a fire.
-
If your house becomes flooded, appliances exposed to water can be a shock and fire hazard. Contact an electrician to inspect the appliances to see if they can be salvaged.
