City of Roseville officials will suspend enforcement of our lawn mowing ordinance during May to give residents who wish to participate an opportunity to do so without fines or warnings. Enforcement will resume on June 1.
While mowing less during the month of May can benefit pollinators, there are many other benefits for you and your yard. Mowing less frequently uses less fuel and emits fewer emissions. Native plants grow deeper root systems which help with soil water retention. Letting turf grass grow a little longer than usual helps to grow deeper roots and become more resistant to drought.
Minnesota is home to more than 500 species of bees that emerge from hibernation in the spring. Other pollinators include butterflies, moths, wasps, and hornets. Even some songbirds, which eat coneflower seeds, can help with the pollination process.
