Back by popular demand, The City of Roseville is hosting a Spring Tree Sale! The sale is a win-win for residents, the community, and its nonprofit partner.
The city, in partnership with the nonprofit Tree Trust, will offer nine species of trees to residents at discounted prices. Species available are:
- Serviceberry
- Redbud
- Ironwood
- Whitespire Birch
- Bur Oak
- Ginkgo
- Hackberry
- Black Hills Spruce
- Techny Arborvitae
Evergreen trees are about 3-4 feet tall; Shade trees are about 5-8 feet tall. The sale opens online here at 8 a.m. on March 7. Sales run through 4 p.m. March 23. Residents can pick up their trees at the Roseville Maintenance Facility between 8 a.m. and noon on June 7.
“Our annual tree sale is wildly popular. We are pleased that residents are helping to preserve and grow our tree canopy on private property here in Roseville,” said Roseville Parks Superintendent Jim Taylor.
The city has partnered with Tree Trust for the past three years. Tree Trust Community Forestry Manager Megan Christel explains why the tree sale is a win-win for residents and the greater community.
What is the benefit of purchasing through the tree sale?
We are providing trees at a deeply discounted rate. We offer species suited for this region. We also offer trees that fit a variety of yards and growing conditions including large shade trees, smaller flowering and fruit trees, and evergreens. There is also the convenience factor. This program gives homeowners the opportunity to pick up a tree in their community instead of having to travel to farther locations and pay more.
Once I pick up my tree, how do I know I planting and caring for it properly?
We provide educational material. We provide a tree owner manual and how-to- plant instructions at pickup. We also encourage folks to check out Tree Trust’s how to plant your tree video. We mail out a newsletter that includes first-year and second-year tree care. We know people are excited about their new trees and we want to make the process fun. Tree Trust also offers pruning workshops around the metro area. Also, Tree Trust is available to answer questions at tree pickup.
How does the tree sale help the greater community?
We work with the city to make sure we are offering diverse species to strengthen the tree canopy health. We don’t want to oversaturate with any species. We want to make sure something is not going to come through and take out a huge chunk of the canopy again like Emerald Ash Borer.
What options are available for residents who are unable to pick up and plant a tree on their own?
The nonprofit Tree Trust has a separate business entity called Tree Trust Landscape Services. They offer professional planting and landscape services. Profits from that entity helps to fund Tree Trust’s nonprofit programs. Learn more at Treetrust.org.
